IEC was the leading heating oil distributor for the Fairbanks area known as "The Interior." I was responsible for coordinating and dispatching a fleet of drivers.
I was on the radio with the drivers all night. Anytime the the Northern Lights got active they would let me know and I'd run outside. I have seen some incredible light shows. Too bad video wasn't available then.
This was at the beginning of the PC era. The computer that the business ran on was a mini-mainframe that ran on COBOL. PCs were just beginning to take over. A lot of times it was a while between dispatches and I liked playing with computers so I tried to make myself useful. I started writing routines to automate accounting procedures.
